With innovation as the primordial mover of economic development and progress in the age of Industry 4.0, the Department of Trade and Industry, for six years, held the annual Inclusive Innovation Conference (IIC), to provide an avenue for key stakeholders in the academe, industry, and government to envision an innovation-centric future, reset goals and strategies, and launch collaborative programs on innovation and entrepreneurship among stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
With a focus on strengthening leadership and value orientation towards innovation and entrepreneurship on 25-26 May 2022, with the theme, “Leadership in Innovation: Key to Sustained Competitiveness and Economic Growth”, we aim to elevate innovation to the top agenda as a foundation of reform and organizational change. We welcome the new administration and enjoin them to keep the momentum for a sustainable and competitive economy.
The 2-day session will feature high-level officials from government, C-level industry executives, and university presidents and chancellors and their vice-presidents and vice-chancellors in research and extension, and innovation to define the kinds of innovation that drive growth and help the country meet its developmental and economic objectives, and set governance performance metrics for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Bjorn S. Santos is the Director for Research at the Mariano Marcos State University, championing creativity and innovation to expand the frontiers of knowledge as driver of superior academics and high impact contributions to improving human welfare. In 2016-2021, he was the 18th President at De La Salle Araneta University. He earned his Master’s Degree and PhD at Texas A&M University specializing in power and machinery, and renewable energy. Dr. Raymond R. Tan is the current Vice-President for Research and Innovation, a Distinguished Full Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and University Fellow of De La Salle University, as well as an Academician of the Philippine National Academy of Science and Technology. He works in the research area of systems engineering with applications to carbon management and process integration, and is the co-developer of the carbon emissions pinch analysis (CEPA) algorithm. Dr. Edgar Alcantara Orden is a man of science, a respected academician and a researcher highlighted with his extensive body of works on ruminant nutrition for which he was bestowed several awards of national prominence. His research articles were published in several international refereed journals in animal and feed sciences, animal physiology and nutrition, and livestock research and rural development. He was also a recipient of several Best Paper Awards from different national RD&E agencies. Dr. Jonathan W.L. Salvacion is currently the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the MAPUA Institute of Technology and a member of the European Patent Agent Qualifying Examination Professionals. He is a Former College Secretary, Chemical Engineering Department Chair, and Director of the CIDS at the University of the Philippines Diliman. His specialties include Patent searching and drafting; patent information mining; translation of technical and legal documents from German to English; and bubble column design. Shearyl U. Arenas is the Electronics Engineering Program Chair and Technopreneurship Coordinator of the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.). She received her ECE degree from T.I.P. and her Master’s in Engineering from TUP, joining PhilDev’s Innovative Development through Entrepreneurship Acceleration (IDEA) three-month study visit at the University of California (UC) Berkeley – Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) in 2015. ED Nelly Nita Dillera is a career service professional holding a leadership position in government service at the Department of Trade & Industry and Department of Tourism. Formerly the regional director of the Department of Tourism in SOCCSKSARGEN, she is designated as the DTI’s Project Director of the Philippine Skills Framework and DTI’s Focal Person for the Skills Up Net projects. Declared Woman Leader Award and Ulirang Ina Award for Government Service and currently the Executive Director of the DTI- Philippine Trade Training Center. Joanna Rodriguez is a Public Sector Director for Microsoft for 15 years. She held various roles, from a senior position in Enterprise Sales and as National Technology Officer before assuming her current role of Public Sector Director in 2018. As a current Public Sector Director, she is bringing the vision of serving the Filipino people through technological empowerment to the forefront of the national agenda, by delivering innovative and transformational IT projects that improve government administration and enhance citizen-service delivery. Vincent M. Remo has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP) since 2018 and is the incumbent President of the Association. A Software R&D practitioner and an Executive in a Japanese Software R&D firms. He is a member of the Board of Directors in Advanced World Systems, Inc. and Advanced World Solutions, Inc., and concurrently serves as the Vice President for Solutions Development for both companies. Dr. Gonzalo “Al” Serafica has over 25 years of experience with technology commercialization and intellectual property expansion. He is DOST Balik Scientist in 2014-15 and is currently in the Philippines to help scientists and engineers in commercializing their technologies and expanding their intellectual property. He recently assumed the Executive Director of CISTEM in September 2021 to help expand it funding support from various sources and accelerate its path to sustainability. Dr. Erika Legara is a physicist and data scientist who holds an Aboitiz Chair in Data Science and a professorship in Data Science at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). She is the Founding Program Director of AIM’s Master of Science in Data Science, one of the region’s leading data science graduate programs. In 2019, as a policy advisor, Erika was tapped to help the Philippines craft its National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap. Dr. Jinky B. Bornales is a theoretical physicist who has made significant contributions to the physics of polymers makingher the recipient of the 2020 National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Achievement Award in Physics. A well-recognized expert in her field and holds a full professor rank, Jinky has been invited to speak in conferences and universities in Japan, Germany, Italy, and France. Chancellor Clement Camposano He is presently a faculty member at the Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences, U.P. Visayas. Until his transfer to the Division of Professional Education in 2022, he taught courses in the anthropology and sociology of education at the Division of Curriculum and Instruction – Educational Foundations, College of Education, University of the Philippines Diliman. Publicly engaged, he served five terms as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Center for Civic Education and Democracy (PCCED), a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of active citizenship and civic engagement which he helped found Dr. Fidel R. Nemenzo, D.Sc. is Professor of Mathematics and Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). He studied in UP Diliman and in Sophia University, Tokyo, where he obtained his MS and Doctor of Science degrees. He specializes in number theory, elliptic curves and coding theory, and has held research and teaching posts in Tokyo, Singapore, Amsterdam, Munich and Phnom Penh. Prof. Nemenzo was President of both the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Society of the Philippines. He has also served as Vice Chancellor for Research and Development of UPD and head of its Science and Society Program. Katrina Rausa Chan concurrently serves as the Executive Director of QBO Innovation Hub, a public-private initiative which she launched in 2016 to develop the Philippines’ startup ecosystem; and IdeaSpace, a pioneering corporate accelerator and early stage fund backed by the MVP Group. In this capacity, she leads one of the most active startup enablers in the country, and has worked with over 150 partners to accelerate the growth of a combined network of over 500 Filipino startup ventures across various stages and industries. Jose Avelino “JOJO” Flores is the Co-Founder at Plug and Play tech Center, a Silicon Valley-based early-stage investor, and technology startup accelerator. He is also the co-founder of Launchgarage patterned after Plug and Play. Launchgarage is an accelerator and investor in tech startups in the Philippines and the ASEAN region, in addition, Jojo serves as a Board Member and Vice-President in the Science and Technology Advisory Council to the Philippine government and leading universities, helping them bridge technology entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley. Ericson James DL Pacaba is an investor who has co-founded multiple ventures in both technology and brick-and-mortar spaces, raising for them over 30M USD over the past few years. These ventures have a combined revenue of USD5M to date.
