The Bureau of Trade and Industrial Policy Research (BTIPR) is the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) policy research arm and think tank. The Bureau traces its roots to the Office of Policy Research (OPR) before it was expanded and reorganized into the Sector Planning Bureau (SPB).  In 2017, the Bureau was renamed as the Bureau of Trade and Industrial Policy Research (BTIPR) to emphasize its role in the provision of evidence-based research and formulation of trade and industry-related policies and recommendations. 

The Bureau is supervised by a Director and Assistant Director and supported by three divisions with the following functions: 

• Policy Research Division (PRD) – takes charge of the preparation of position papers, trade and industry-related legislative measures, as well as in the conduct and management of trade and industry researches;
• Monitoring & Evaluation Division (MED) – takes charge of the delivery of up-to-date trade and industry statistics and reports, as well as the conduct of evidence-based researches; and,
• Program Development Division (PDD) – takes charge of the management of trade, industry, and innovation-related programs and projects.
