Mandate

The Competitiveness and Innovation Group (CIG) was established in support of Agenda 3 of the President’s 0+10 socio-economic agenda to increase competitiveness and ease of doing business anchored on AmBisyon Natin 2040.

Moreover, the CIG is trailblazing the implementation of the strategic actions under the country’s new innovation-centered and science and technology-based industrial policy, Inclusive Innovation Industrial Strategy (i3S), which aims to grow globally competitive and innovative Philippine industries. Consistent with i3S, the Group is also leading the implementation of the Inclusive Filipinnovation and Entrepreneurship Roadmap (IFER), in collaboration with various government agencies, partners in academe, and stakeholders in the industry, to bridge the gap between the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems in the country.

Under the CIG are the following bureaus/offices:

Bureau of Trade and Industrial Policy Research (BTIPR)
Provides coherent, consistent, and clear trade and industry policies in support of the national economic development agenda.

Competitiveness Bureau (CB)
The Competitiveness Bureau (CB) is mandated to enhance the development and pursuit towards the competitiveness of Philippine trade and local industries through focused efforts on the implementation of programs/projects/activities intended to improve the quality of industry outputs and services, as well as their productivity, through improvement in business systems and processes and the flow of inputs and outputs. .

Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB)
The Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB), formerly the Philippine Accreditation Office (PAO), provides accreditation to Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) such as Certification Bodies, Inspection Bodies, Testing and Calibration Laboratories, and Medical Testing Laboratories in accordance with ISO standards, international requirements, and PAB accreditation criteria.
